40th Birthday Comedy Joke

My best friend's 40th birthday was coming, and she was feeling down. She worried she was starting to show her age, when in fact she looked terrific. So a few of us put our thinking caps on and hatched a plan.

We decided to take her to a few of our local comedy clubs. Some well-known comedians were coming to town and we thought it would be the perfect way to cheer her up.

Our clubs are for ages 21 and older. So at each club one of us walked ahead of the others and requested the person checking ID’s at the door to participate in our birthday joke. We asked them to ask our friend for her ID "just to be sure she's 21."

We went to three comedy clubs that night and my friend got "carded" at each one. She couldn’t have been happier! She marveled that at age 40, some people didn’t think she looked old enough to get into a club.

We had planned to tell her about our birthday joke. But it had made her 40th birthday so much fun that we decided to keep it our little secret.
