A Dozen Red Roses I'll Never Forget

by Elizabeth
(Des Moines, IA, USA)

Every time I hear the phrase “a dozen red roses” I can't help but smile and think about Jason, my wonderful husband and the day he proposed to me. When I woke up in the morning, he had already left for work.

I knew he wouldn't be back until evening, so I was prepared for a boring, lonely day.

One of the first things I noticed after opening my eyes was a single, beautiful red rose, in my favorite blue vase on my bedside table. I was really touched that Jason had cared to leave such a cute small gift for me to brighten up my day. I didn't know yet that much more was to be expected!

I was completely surprised when I found another rose, this time in the bathroom. I thought that my boyfriend surely had some crazy ideas. The next rose was waiting for me on the kitchen table, together with a small note from him saying that he had reserved a table at our favorite restaurant, and hoped we could spend a wonderful evening together.

I thought that any day which started in such an adorable way must turn out wonderful!

I was even more surprised as I found other roses... one in the hallway, another one in the garage. But imagine my astonishment when I arrived at the office to see a bouquet of seven beautiful roses on my desk!

My co-worker said it had just been delivered, and asked whether I had a secret lover sending flowers to me. I told her about the roses I had found at home, and she said she was sure that my boyfriend had prepared some really amazing surprise! I couldn't wait til evening to meet him.

That evening, I went home to quickly change clothes and then to the restaurant to meet him.

And there he was ... waiting for me with a single red rose! He asked how many roses had I received that day. I quickly counted: it was twelve.

I don't remember what we ate that night because I was so excited! But I remember the question that he asked me after dinner ... I guess I don't have to mention what it was, and what I answered?
