Autumn Poem of Welcome

The first chill morning when I rush back inside
to look for a sweater for months cast aside,

I know in my bones that it won't be too long
til the long sweaty summer sings its final swan song.

Good riddance to heat rash, mosquitos and flies,
a blazing hot sun assaulting my eyes.

I look longingly forward to cool dewy morns
that make me feel fresh, alert and reborn.

Thoughts turn to outdoor events and fairs,
To long pleasant walks in the cool fresh air.

A heavenly SIGH! escapes my mouth
when summertime comes to an end in the South.
