English Ethnic Groups, a Brief History
Present-day England is part of Great Britain and the British Isles, a territory so coveted it has been invaded over the centuries by waves of tribes from mainland Europe: Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Vikings, and Normans.
By the late 1500s, the English had become sea-faring explorers, developing vast colonies in Asia, Africa, and the Americas. In turn, many immigrants from British colonies resettled to England, creating a diverse ethnic population.
More than 90% of England's population is British/Irish/Scots, almost 4% is Indian or Pakastani, and minorities of less than 1% each include African, Caribbean, Chinese, and other Asians.
