European Ethnic Groups, a Brief History

The earliest known European histories are those of the Mediterranean countries: Greece, Turkey, Italy, and Spain. Early Greek writers recorded stories from travelers to northern and western European regions, but little else was known of those ancient tribes until the rise of the Roman Empire in the 1st century BC.

The ancient tribes which formed Europe's major ethnic groups: Germanic, Celto-Germanic, French, Iberian (Spain & Portugal), Fennic (Finland), Greek, Magyars (Hungary, Romania), and the largest ethic group, Slavs.
