Fathers Day Appreciation Poem

by Lorraine
(Bethlehem, PA, USA)

My father is a strong man who has sacrificed his entire life to provide for us. Growing up, I believed there was nothing that he couldn’t do. Part of me still believes that. To thank him, on Father’s Day we would not let him do anything resembling work. He was only allowed to do things that are fun.

He woke to his favorite breakfast and, since he was the only male in a household of three women and one bathroom, we didn’t harass him for taking all the bathroom time he wanted that day.

He always says his favorite part of Fathers Day is not hearing even one of us pounding on the door pleading, “Dad! Please hurry up! I have to do my hair!” No one touched the remote all day and, if that meant a solid day of sports or black and white war movies- he got it.

Dad is a manly-man and there was way too much estrogen flowing through the house while we were growing up. He loves his sports and we do too, so we headed out to the yard to throw a football or baseball, or anything he felt like doing while taking in the fresh spring air.

Our gift to him every year is tickets to the NASCAR race at Pocono Raceway, and the best Fathers Days were the ones when the race actually landed on that weekend.

Although we try to show our gratitude throughout the year, Dad never likes us to make a fuss over him. But on Fathers Day, he humors our attempts to make him the center of attention.

Two years ago Dad was diagnosed with cancer, and he fought it like he has fought every hardship in his life. He beat it too.

That scare made us appreciate Dad even more. He really is my hero.

Fathers Day Appreciation Poem

Dad, there aren't enough words to say
how much love I have for you today.
The example you have set throughout my life
has taught me to be a good mother and wife.
Of all the Dads from all of time
I am so grateful you are mine.
