Answer: Holiday Tips subscribers receive a new desktop calendar each month. They always have 3 upcoming months' calendars on which they can enter reminders.
No more missed birthdays and anniversaries. Save calendars from year to year (see below).
Q: How do I install the calendars?
Answer: As a new subscriber, you will downoad a zip file containing 3 calendars. each is named for the specific month such as July.zip, Aug.zip, and Sept.zip
- Choose to "Save" the file
- "Save As" the default filename
- "Save In" Desktop
(If you saved to your default folder such as "My Documents" instead of to your Desktop, you will find the zip file in your default folder)
- Unzip the files.
- Review the ReadMeFirst text file.
- Locate the .exe icons (i.e., July.exe, Aug.exe, Sept.exe) and drag them to your Desktop.
There is nothing to install. Your calendars are now ready to use.
Q: How do I enter notes and reminders?
Answer: Click any date on the calendar. Begin typing when the cursor appears. Words will automatically wrap to the next line and text will scroll as you type.
To exit a cell and save your note, simply click into any other date cell on the calendar.
The "Enter/Return" key functions only as a carriage return. To save notes and exit the cell, click into any other date cell on the calendar.
Q: How do I edit or delete reminders?
Answer: Click into the cell you want to change, add or delete words. Your changes are saved when you click into any other date cell on the calendar.
Q: How do I save my calendar after typing in the date cells?
Answer: Your notes are automatically saved when you click into any other cell on the calendar.
Q: How do I print my calendar?
Answer: Depending on your printer and options:
Right-click / Page Setup / Landscape / OK
Right-click / Print / Preferences / Landscape / OK
Q: I would like to remove old calendars from my desktop, but save them for reference
Answer: An easy way to de-clutter calendars from your desktop is to drag & drop them into a new folder (Right-click/New/Folder). The folder can then be cut & pasted to another place on your computer.
Q: I would like to save all my reminders in a single file Answer: Here is an easy way:
Open a new MS Word (or other word processor) document and position it on half your monitor screen. Open the calendar you would like to save and position it on the other half of your monitor screen.
With the calendar active (click the title bar), hold down the "Alt" key and click "PrtScr" (Alt+PrtScr) at the same time. Click the Word document to make it active (a blinking cursor will appear). Hold down "Control" and type "V" at the same time (Ctrl+V) at the point where you want the calendar to appear.
A copy of your calendar will be pasted into the Word document. You can resize the calendar to take less space on the page, by grabbing a corner and dragging it inward.
In this way, you can paste successive months one after the other, and save birthday and anniversary reminders for an entire year in one file.
Q: I would like to delete old calendars completely from my computer
Answer: Select the program (flower) icon and hit the "Delete" key. You can also right-click the icon and select "Delete."
If you wish, you can delete the files containing your saved notes and reminders. These are very small files (0-4 KB) and it is not necessary to delete them.
But if you wish to, here are the steps:
Windows XP
My Computer \ Tools \ Folder Options \ View \ Show hidden files and folders \ Apply \ OK
My Computer \ C: \ Documents and Settings \ User (your name) \ Application Data \ SGF Calendar
Delete the months you no longer need. Repeat the first steps above to deselect "show hidden files."
Windows 7
Computer \ Local Disk (C:) \ Users \ User (your name) \
Click the "Organize" button for your User folder, select "Folder and Search Options" from the menu, click the "View" tab, select "Show hidden files, folders, and drives," then click "OK."
When hidden folders become available:
AppData \ Roaming \ SGF Calendar \
Delete the months you no longer need. Repeat the first steps above to deselect "Show hidden files, folders, and drives."
Q: I accidentally deleted my calendars, how can I replace them?
Answer: If you deleted the original zip files, please send us a note. We will be happy to replace them.
Your saved notes and reminders will re-appear just as before, unless you deleted the .cl files (see previous question).
