Funny New Years Resolution, Save Money!
by Jeff
Years ago I made a New Years resolution to save more money. I was a bachelor who could spend money as fast as I made it. But I wanted to change this habit in order to become financially secure as I got older. But where to start? The books suggested that I invest money in real estate as the best way to save for the future. The books don’t mention how much you have to pay in the present to secure that future. But I followed the advice and bought a house. Several women at my workplace began to notice me. They said they loved the idea of a man who is stable enough to own his home. I met a lovely lady, and we began a relationship which blossomed into love. Next, a wedding followed. A wedding is not a cheap occasion, so more money was spent. I entered into matrimony with a beautiful new house, a beautiful new wife and an assortment of new loans to pay off. Two years later a baby was on the way. Along with the joy of a newborn came new bills. School for my child means borrowing money to pay for private school. I can look forward in the future to bills for braces, college, and the expense of my daughter's wedding. I was younger when I made my resolution to save money. I did not know then that I might go bankrupt trying! It has given me a home mortgage, credit card debt, home equity loan, and the prospect of more expenses in the future. But I would not change a single thing. Because of my pledge, I have my wonderful family today. My wife and I laugh at the funny New Years resolution that brought us together to share our lives.
