German Ethnic Groups, a Brief History

For thousands of years, Germanic tribes successfully fended off attack from invading Roman legions, which conquered and occupied lands throughout the rest of western Europe, parts of Asia and northern Africa.

Germans are predominantly descended from these fierce original tribes, and form the largest ethnic group in modern Germany. There are smaller German minorities of Turkish, Danish, and Slavic descent.
