Special Grandparent's Day Poem

"Grandma!" Sis and I would say when weekend came and visiting day.
We'd race from car to Grandma's door to see what surprises lay in store.

She had a room for us alone, a playing, laughing, kiddie-zone.
A basket full of games and toys, some for girls and some for boys.

She helped us learn to read and write, told us stories late at night.
She watched us play in little league, never scolded, never fatigued.

Even after we were teens, we loved to share our latest dreams
'cause Grandma always understood ...
she let us know that we were good.

National Grandparents Day

Thanks to the lifelong work of Marian McQuade of Oak Hill, W. VA., a special day was proclaimed Grandparents Day in her home state of West Virginia by Gov. Arch Moore in 1973. In 1978 President Jimmy Carter made the observance a national law.
