Halloween Poems And Stories

"Readers share Halloween poems, stories and photos about our spookiest holiday."

How will you celebrate Halloween this year? Will you:

  • wear a costume
  • carve a pumpkin
  • visit a haunted house
  • go to a Halloween party
  • participate in a treasure hunt
  • take the kids trick-or-treating
  • decorate the yard with ghosts and ghouls

Does your family have traditional Halloween activities? Can you share your best costumes (have a photo?), favorite party games, or memorable Halloween stories for others to enjoy?

Holiday poems are fun and easy to write. Here's a sample:

Happy Halloween!

Carve the pumpkins, light the candles,
line the walk to ward off vandals.
Hang the skeletons with proper care,
their bleached bones clatter in the cold night air.

Add gossamer webs to the ghoulish decor,
candy waits in a bowl by the door.
Turn off the porch light, sit in the flicker
of jack o'lanterns as the night grows thicker.

'Round the corner comes Little Bo Peep,
looking for her poor lost sheep.
A cowboy, vampire, Spiderman too,
Harry Potter and Winnie the Pooh.

Rosy faces bright and smiling
with anticipation so beguiling!
Candy treats bring squeals of delight
this magical trick-or-treating night.
