Halloween Superhero Poem

by Michael Spelman II
(Clarksville, TN, USA)

When I was six, I really wanted to be Batman. Mother finally gave in and bought me the costume. For weeks I counted the days until Halloween. I was so excited, I could barely sleep.

When Halloween came I was the coolest kid in the world. I became Batman: I ran around the house, jumped off the couch, jumped onto chairs, I was invincible.

Night was forever in coming. I got those excitement jitters that you get before something big was about to happen.

When evening arrived, I ran through the neighborhood collecting candy with a big smile (invisible behind my Batman mask) on my face. I was a 6 year old boy living the life of a superhero. For that one night, I wasn't Michael, I was Batman.

When you're a kid, everything seems so much bigger then it really is. I was a superhero that day.

Halloween Superhero Poem

For the night I could be whatever I choose,
pick the perfect guise, there's nothing to lose.

Monsters, gremlins, ghosts and ghouls,
no fear of darkness, fortunate fools.

I'm invincible, invisible, unable to be pinned.
Living the dream of a vicarious win.

Halloween, what a drama you are to me.
I'll be a hero next year, wait and see.
