Indian Festivals, Autumn Poem

Festival of Lights in India

Festival of Lights in India

Autumn is my favorite season in India because the fall festivals take place after the harvest. It is the celebration of the moon and the bounty of autumn, when finally the farmers have time to enjoy the cool breezes and beauty of nature.

Dusshera is celebrated throughout the country during this season. The chill in the air encourages people to come out in large numbers. The ten day festival is celebrated in many ways in different parts of India.

In my area, dances are held for nine days. Each evening people wearing colorful dresses gather and dance around an earthen lamp. Lights sparkle and music creates exhilaration among the celebrants.

I decorate my house with flowers, leaves and colorful lightings. My friends exchange gifts, sweets and clothes. It is also the time for tasty, homemade special foods.

After the Durga Puja is celebrated it is time for Diwali, also called the “Festival of Lights.” It is a family festival where friends, relatives, and near and dear ones gather and exchange pleasantries. Mouthwatering delicacies are served, and there is usually a fireworks display. We burst crackers and light earthenware pots.

I love the merriment, the sparkling of fireworks, the flickering of earthen lamps, and gorging on special delicacies. Fall weather is the perfect background for the autumn festivals of India.

Season Of Autumn Poem

Four seasons come one after another,
but autumn is the best wonder.
As the summer months pass
the season of autumn arrives.

I sit on a lofty hill
surrounded by the beauty still.
Trees adorned with hued leaves,
fall to the ground in the autumn breeze.

Autumn changed my life in many ways.
It's impossible to forget extraordinary days
when I met him, fell in love at first sight,
everything with him was perfect and bright.
