Inspirational Ageless Friendship Poem
by Susan
One day at church, I was volunteering to substitute teach Sunday School when the church nurse asked to speak with me. She asked if I would be willing to spend time with an elderly, visually-impaired lady who needed a little help around the house. She said this woman even wanted to pay me. When I met my new friend, I thought she seemed dignified, reserved and quiet. I agreed to begin helping her the following week. The tasks I perform for her are mundane, but she has turned out to be a fascinating companion. She spent her life providing foster care to over 80 children. She suffered 10 miscarriages, and gave birth to one child who lived only a month. Finally, she cared for her husband during his long illness and eventual death of Alzheimer's disease. As the weeks stretched into months and the seasons passed, we became dear friends in spite of our 40-year age difference. She possesses a lively quick wit and exudes a contagious sense of contentment with life. She has taught me to recognize and appreciate my own blessings. I enjoy spending time with my friend. It's not work at all, more like cultivating a cherished friendship. Friendship Is Ageless Poem
