Inspirational Circle of Friendship Poem
by Jennifer
Our daughters smiling in friendship at each other
My oldest friend is still my best friend. We've been together through kindergarten, braces, prom, university, marriage and now children. For us, motherhood happened at almost the same time, and our babies were born within a few months of each other. One embarrassing day, I lost my temper at my friend, snapping at her for no reason. I apologized immediately but I still felt terrible, not just for being grumpy but for losing my temper in front of the babies. She understood and forgave me. We shared a hug and I said, “I hope our daughters do not see and copy my display of bad temper!” We grinned and watched the babies playing on the floor. They tottered across the carpet, laughing and chasing each other. My daughter stumbled and fell back onto her bum, letting out a short cry. My friend's baby turned and saw my daughter on the floor, so she came back and squatted down to examine the crying one, her little forehead wrinkled with concern. Then she smiled, stood up, and reached down to grab her friend. She used one of the new words they had recently learned: “Up, up!” she called, encouraging her friend to stand up and try again. My friend turned to me, “I think they're seeing exactly what they need to see.” The Circle of Friendship Poem
