Middle Eastern Ethnic Groups, a Brief History
The Middle East is home to dozens of ethnic groups. And although Islam is the dominant religion, both Christianity and Judaism originated there.
The Fertile Crescent, also called the cradle of civilization, is the watershed area of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. Ancient cultures which occupied the Fertile Crescent include Egyptians, Babylonians, Assyrians, Persians, Greeks, and Romans. In more recent times, the area was dominated by the Ottoman Empire for six hundred years, until 1923.
From this remarkable region of rivers, mountains, and fertile basins spread the tribes of the modern Middle East. Ethic groups include Arabs, Persians, Kurds, Turks, Jews, Berbers, Pashtuns, Greeks, Somalis and many more.
