New Years Family Poem

by C.B.
(Philadelphia, PA, USA)

My family always celebrates New Year’s Eve the same way, with a big family get together and lots of tag-a-long friends. An evening full of laughter where the food is always the same: creamed chip beef on toast and apple cider. Lots of other snacks, of course.

We wear silly hats and spend the evening munching on finger food, telling stories about the year just past.

Then we watch the ball drop. And only then, after midnight, do we dig into the creamed dried beef.

This tradition started years ago with my grandparents one year, when they had a dinner party and a blizzard came. No one was able to leave for three days. They ate leftovers and shoveled out the neighborhood together.

It became our family's tradition to stay home and have friends and relatives over on New Year’s Eve.

New Years Family Poem

The end of a year, new times 'round the bend.
Good food, laughter, celebrating with friends.

Traditions abound this time of year,
nothing's better than having loved ones near.

Watching the ball drop over the city ...
New Year’s Eve always makes me giddy!

Laughter, friendship, the New Year awaits,
may happiness and laughter be your fates!
