No More Chocolate, New Years Resolution

by John
(Queens, New York)

I am a chocoholic without a doubt. Chocolate is my favorite candy. I have an uncontrollable craving for it. I eat, drink, and sleep chocolate. Two years ago I had put on an extra 15 pounds by the beginning of winter.

After talking with friends, I decided to stop eating chocolate as part of my New Years resolution.

The first day of January came around. I was excited and ready to put chocolate out of my mind. That first day was not easy. All I could think about was chocolate, because I knew I could not have it. But I managed to get through the day and soon a few weeks had gone by. I was not even thinking about chocolate.

Suddenly it was the first of February. I had gone almost five weeks without chocolate. I was so proud of myself that I did not realize it was almost Valentines Day.

February 14th arrived, and there were Valentines Day flowers, presents, and different kinds of chocolates everywhere. There were chocolate gifts and chocolate hearts, in different sizes, different shapes, different colors, and different flavors. By this time I had lost eight of the fifteen extra pounds I wanted to lose.

But seeing all that chocolate made me so hungry, I caved and had a chocolate binge. I couldn’t help myself.

Even though I broke my resolution I was proud for making it that far. I kept eating chocolate after that, but was able to exercise and lose the fifteen pounds I wanted to.
