Passionate Piano New Years Resolution

New Years Piano Resolution

New Years Piano Resolution

Two years ago, I made the best new years resolution of my life. During the winter I had fallen into a depression I could not seem to escape. My life had become lackluster, void of excitement or challenge.

I was apathetic and unmotivated. I needed something to get passion back into my life.

I've always had an interest in music but never committed to learning an instrument. I especially liked to hear and see others play the piano, more so if they were skillful. It seemed to me a technically difficult instrument, intricate and a little intimidating.

What did I have to lose? I decided to study piano.

I remember the first time I sat in front of a piano. I felt lost in a sea of black and white keys. The notes and instructions in my music books were gibberish. I was more than a little overwhelmed.

I knew my progress was going to be slow. Still, I sat at my piano and practiced hours every day.

Little by little, I forgot to be melancholy. Soon I was hooked! I loved playing piano, even though I was quite the beginner. I became interested in music theory. I wanted to learn more, play better!

I had more fun in the last two years than I did in the previous five. The color returned to my life. I have new passion and, most importantly, optimism about the future.

Making that new years resolution, and keeping it, was the most important thing I ever did.
