Red Roses And Heartshaped Cake
by Michael
The occasion happened 15 years back but still it left a lasting effect on my mind till date. I was studying in final year in a catering management college. I was especially close to a girl named Shelly. Every other day she would surprise me with some pranks of hers. We had to do cooking, steaming, baking and roasting in our practical classes. We both liked to pair up for these classes. It was easy knowing her and she, too, had started liking me. As my birthday was approaching, I casually asked her to plan out the day so that we could be together. But she refused, saying that it was a weekend and she would be visiting her cousins. I felt hurt but carried on as usual. Early in the morning on the day of my birthday there was a knock on my door. I opened it and, to my surprise, Shelly was standing there with a big heart-shaped cake she had baked with a gold ring sitting pretty in the middle of it, along with a bouquet of red roses. I was speechless. This was what I was supposed to do for her. But here she was instead, proposing me on my birthday! I swept her off the feet and took her inside the room. My happiness knew no bounds. I kissed her forehead and promised to be with her for the lifetime.
