Short Christmas Memories Poem

by Alvin Procknow
(La Crosse, WI, USA)

My favorite memory of Christmas is not quite a memory, at least not yet. This coming Christmas holiday will be the first for my fiancé and me together. Instead of going to a relative's house, we will be hosting.

This will also be the Christmas we start our own holiday traditions, without aunts, uncles and cousins. This is our first Christmas with only the immediate family. My parents, sister and her husband, brother and his girlfriend and my grandma. They are making the 200 mile trip to see us, and we cannot wait.

What's kind of funny about this, is my cousin was supposed to host, but her house is always "less than clean," and no one really wants to go there. Dad called and said his brother "wasn't going, and if anybody wants to stop by his place afterwards for dinner, come on by."

I laughed and told him we couldn't make it this year because money is a little tight. He made a joke that maybe they would come see us for the weekend, and I told him that would be a great idea, and to let my sister and brother know they are invited also.

A couple days later, my dad stopped by our apartment on his way to the hunting land up north. He took us out to breakfast, and told us that Grandma would be joining us, and she would gladly help make dinner.

Christmas is now about a month away, and most of the gifts have been bought.

This will be the first Christmas as our little, independent family. It is the Christmas when we start new traditions, creating great memories of our own.

Short Christmas Memories Poem

No leaves in the trees,
they're covered with snow.
With snow on the trees,
the leaves cannot grow.

Make a snow fort,
behind a snow man.
Carrot for his nose,
sticks for his hands.

Get tucked into bed,
St. Nick's on his way,
to give some new toys,
from the back of his sleigh.

The cookies and milk,
you left him last night.
He ate every crumb,
must have been a delight!

Now open your presents,
they're there just for you.
A few pair of socks,
some red and some blue.
