Short Christmas Time Poem

On Christmas eve we have a birthday party for Jesus. My mom started this tradition when we were children to teach us that Christmastime is not just about presents, but about sharing, good will, and especially about Jesus.

We make a cake together and have a party with the whole family. We light candles on the cake and sing "Happy Birthday" to Jesus.

Over the years, the parties have gotten smaller and the extended family comes over another day, but we still have the birthday party for Jesus. The only difference is that now I teach my children that Christmas is about more than just presents.

They learn that Christmas is about giving, a lesson that Jesus teaches. And when my daughter takes her allowance to the store to buy a toy, and puts some of it into the Salvation Army red pot, I know she has been listening all these years.

Short Christmas Time Poem

When the snow starts to fall and the spirit appears
I know it's just about time,
for the kitchen to smell like holiday treats
baked with cinnamon, sugar, and lime.

Time for bundling up in snowsuits
to make snowballs, snow angels, go sledding.
Time for us all to curl by the fire
wrapped in cozy and warm, toasty bedding.

Time for dads to put on the red suit,
for kids to make their long lists.
My heart starts to race as I find the right gifts
for my loved ones, I can't resist!

Smiles on my kids' faces as wrapping's torn off
is the only present I need.
It tells me it's time for goodwill and cheer
'cause Christmas is here, so pay heed!
