Veterans Day Dedication Poem
by Julie O'Brien
At the University where I work, classes are in session on Veteran’s Day. But that does not stop us from commemorating the holiday. At noon we meet at the flagpole in front of the administration building for a ceremony. Our school has been designated as a military friendly school, and as we pledged allegiance to the flag and sang our national hymn, I felt a sense of pride as well as peace. I work with undergraduate students, including several who have been in the military. Our student services division has kept the needs of military students in mind and created a place for them to seek assistance when needed. After the flagpole ceremony we attended the dedication of the Wright house, then toured the new Resource Center. The crowd was large, reflecting the support in our community for our young military members. This year our ceremony will be smaller, again at the flagpole at noon to honor those who have fallen and those who continue to serve our country. Veterans Day Dedication Poem
