White Snow on Red Roses

by Chris
(Cambridge, OH, USA)

On Valentine's Day one year, I was on my way to my girlfriend's house with a dozen red roses. It took me half an hour to drive to her house ... she lived on top of a steep hill.

That particular February, it had been very snowy and that day it was also very icy. I made it to her road, but when I tried to drive up the hill, I simply slid right back to the bottom.

I saw there was no way to drive to her house at the top of the hill. I had two choices: take the roses to her somehow, or tell her I couldn't make it.

I wasn't about to tell her I wouldn't be able to see her on Valentine's Day! So I had to think of a way to get to her house.

I couldn't drive, so the only option I could think of was walk up the snowy hill to her house. I put on my coat, gloves, and hat, shut my car off, and started to walk up the hill.

The snow began really coming down now, and the roses looked more beautiful than ever with the white snow on the red roses!

I made it to her house after 15 minutes of walking up the steep, slippery hill. At first she was confused, but after hearing my story (and seeing the snow-covered red roses), she was so appreciative and cherished my gift of a dozen red roses.

My efforts to buy her red roses for Valentine's, and then delivering them to her that day, was definitely worth the smile on her face!
